In response the Blog Article ‘Limitations and Radiologists’, Dr. Himanshu Maniar brought out a very sensible and realistic issue.

He said

“While taking a stance on such issue, we should keep in mind that it may not be possible to change machine so frequently in a private set up. The problem is when you give your machine for buyback the deal is invariably against you as either you get a very small amount (Which may not even cover the loan margins) or you are made to pay more” -

However...Medico legally…Can we safely argue that …… due to the financial limitations resulting in difficulties to upgrade the machinery ….there was error in my diagnosis and my lord… pardon me!

This seems really a burning (business) issue among individual radiologists and sonologists, running own diagnostic centers. Unfortunately switching over to better machines is not that simple as buying a cell phone or laptop or buying a new dress every week for the favorite secretary.

1. When does a Radiologist / Sonologist decide and say. ...my machine has become outdated. Say– After I yr. After 3 yr After 5 yrs After 10 yrs?
2. Is it true that …your machine getting ‘out dated’ depends on how fast your competitor upgrades his/her machinery?
   
   
3. Can one say ‘the machine’ is worthy running ‘as long as ‘the manufacturer is able to deliver the services and continue to supply the spare parts?
   
   
4. What is the idea of ‘refurbished ‘machines being in circulation?Some say that the people from underdeveloped countries are getting the benefit from these outdated machines.

6.  So your "old, outdated" scan machine, would be "New" to someone else.
   
   
7. In the name of ‘being up to date…… ‘. Are present radiologists, financially in position to go on in a buying spree every year when the prices of the equipments are skyrocketing?
8. Is going in for rented machines a good idea it is said that renting cuts down your maintenance costs.

On the top of everything one should remember the role played by the companies in selling the machines, dwelt excellently by Dr.Sham Sunder Goyal in his blog article “Games companies play”.

Where, when and how to draw the line? What is the final solution?

It is said an ultrasound typically requires replacement after five years, the average CT scan requires replacement in six, and MRIs become obsolete after 8 years.

I am not sure how true this is, since present day technological advancements happening at lightening speed … On daily basis

Finally The Jury is out….….. The faster you update your machinery ……..the greater loser you become financially and at the cost of your sound sleep every night!

The day is not far off when machines will make the diagnosis without radiologist’s involvement and Radiologist is busy biting the dust and soon radiologist’s race is going to be wiped off, as non radiologist radiologists are already dominating the once proud domain of the hapless Radiologists.
