Ten ways for New comers to contribute to iRADiX !Posted by: Team Iradix on Aug 02, 2008 Tagged in: Untagged

Ten WaysYour Contribution Matters
Here we go.
1. Member Profile
iRADix is your community.. your website. It is about all us who are related to Radiology. One of the most important part of this community is having own identity. Member's profile is the most popular page in entire iRADix website. Members keep on browsing to see the details about their friends.
Make sure that you have updated complete profile including institute details, interest and about yourself. The two most important things in the profile are 'Member's Photo' & 'About Me'.
Photo truly represents true identity of the person giving website live touch. (I dont know why some members are hesitant to upload their photos when they have list of photos uploaded on other social networking sites Orkut & Facebook!)
More information to update profile & photo can be found here .
2. Help in making the "HelpDesk" better.
New users are life of Iradix!. We need IRADiX! to be as easy as possible for people to learn. As a newcomer, you are "the expert" when it comes to the question of how best to help newcomers learn IRADiX!. And it is really easy and quick to provide feedback (both compliments and constructive criticisms) to those of us working on HelpDesk.
There is a forum (which is sadly underutilized) called Support and Feedback. This is the link.
What have you found helpful while browsing IRADiX!? What was missing? What pointers could have saved lot of time? Let us know by making a post here and maybe we can make it easier for the next person.
Many Radiologists (maybe you?) are great writers and communicators. After all, writing and communications are at the heart of most websites. If so, maybe you can contribute an article or a tutorial or just a quick tip. Or even join the core team !
3. Be a good forum citizen.
The IRADiX! forums are very active, friendly, and (in my biased opinion) very helpful. Users of all levels are encouraged to take advantage of this great resource. What has this got to do with helping the IRADiX! project, you ask? Plenty. You can help save everyone's time in three easy steps.
1. Before you post, do a little research to see if your question has already been answered. Use the search field in the top-right of the forum, and check out the FAQ's and Rules.
2. When you post, be concise, precise, and nice. Concise: state your question or issue as briefly as possible. Precise: Always say what type of help you are looking for.
3. If your topic comes to a successful conclusion, please go back and edit the first post (if you are the topic starter) to indicate that the issue is solved. Either add "[SOLVED]" to the subject line. Remember, you need to edit the first post for this to be visible from the forum list. This does two things: it tells forum users that there might a good answer in the topic and it tells the people trying to answer questions that they can skip this one.
4. Help on the forums.
Want to learn a lot about IRADiX! in a short time? One of the best ways is to help answer questions on the forum. If a topic is interesting but beyond your current knowledge, subscribe to the topic and learn by reading the posts. Many questions can be answered by just sharing your views. For example, many questions from newcomers can be answered by pointing them to the correct area of the IRADiX! forum topic, help page, or blog.
Before you know it, you'll be seeing more and more topics where you can help out.
5. Institute details.
It is very difficult to find information like contact details, type of imaging equipments (ultrasound, CT and MRI) available, faculty members, clinical exposure, quality of work etc.
Iradix is trying to build the comprehensive directory of Imaging Centers of the World. Of course when Iradix team can develop such a complicated and user friendly website Iradix they can also build this directory by using all their means. But we feel that best person who can provide actual details about institute is the person who is working or has worked in the institute as a Resident, Faculty Member or Owner.
Spare your few minutes to add details about your imaging institute. These few minutes will save hours of someone who is seeking the information about your institute. This is the link to add your department / institute details.
6. Radiology Websites
Do you know iRADix is compiling list of all Radiology websites on world wide web ? There are tons of websites on Radiology focussing on its various aspects like paediatric radiology, mri physics, neuroradiology etc. iRADiX team is working hard to compile database of all of them and place in categories like 'General Radiology Websites', Case of the Day/Month' , MRI etc. Going beyond categorization of websites, iRADix is also trying to rate all these websites on the basis of various criteria to help us select the website.
This way it will be helpful for all us to locate and browse website of interest. If you know any website then spare few minutes to add it in the Radiology website directory. Here is the link to add website.
7. Share with the World: Radiology News, Conferences and Events
If you know any News related to Radiology whether it is published in some Newspaper or some website or any event occured in your department which is worth sharing with other Radiology colleagues. iRADiX is the best way to share. iRADiX website is designed in such a way that any member can submit News or add event details in radiology calender.
News can be submitted by clicking 'Submit News ' in the home page of 'iRADiX'.
Conference: Your department is organizing conference or workshop! Oh Great!! Let the world know about this new conference.
Add conference details by clicking add new event in the 'Events' Section.
8. Make sure bugs get reported.
Iradix is a very dynamic and complex website. So one cannot deny 'Errors' while accessing the website. These bugs don't get fixed unless they are reported.
Duh! And yet ... how many times have I heard this: "I can't be the only one who has had this problem! The webmaster must already know about this." Well, maybe you are the "only one", or maybe everyone else is saying the same thing. In either case, it is amazing how many errors are not fixed for the simple reason that they are never reported. Especially with a program like IRADiX!, where it is relatively easy to customize and work around issues, it might be tempting to let others report the bugs and errors. Don't give in to the dark side!
For bugs and errors, the best thing is probably to inform us through 'Report website bug ' form.
9. If you love iRADiX!, talk it up.
An easy but effective way to help the iRADiX! project is to spread the word. Promote iRADiX! In your college and among colleagues. Tell your friends. Make IRADiX! a friend on your ORKUT site. (I'm told you can do this type of thing, although I'm not of the Orkut-Facebook generation.) Subscribe to the IRADiX! Newsletter and participate in IRADiX! events. Make comments about it. Blog about it. Be a part of it.
Invite your Radiology friends, colleagues and seniors to join iRADix. It is very easy to invite your friends. Just fill the email addresses of your friends separated by commas in the provided box and hit the 'Invite button'. Here is the link to invite friends.
10. Mom, please send money.
If you have more money than time and want to help, the IRADiX! project can always use monetary contributions. (The team has asked me to request that these contributions be made in small, unmarked bills in plain paper envelopes, addressed to them personally.) Seriously, if IRADiX! were a commercial product, it would be worth a lot. So do think about this option.
I hope you are convinced that you can contribute in meaningful ways to the IRADiX! project even if you are a newcomer. If you do, you'll learn a lot, have lots of fun, meet interesting people, and feel great about helping out.
If you have any suggestions, we would love to hear them. Just post a comment below or in suggestion box .

... Congratulations to team Iradix for building such a great site. I am a fan of this site. It will add to the flavour if IRADIX starts some educational activity like auntminne.com. |

... Sir, Regards from my side. As far as contribution is concerned. I can contribute my humble collection of power point presentations collected during my residency. This material might be of use to residents and consultants to just refresh their memory of some selected topics. This can act as a common pool where every body learns from others. |

... Dear Dr.Ajay I was infact looking for you. After I went for my CT,MRI job and was struggling to cope with it we had some communications and had agreed that the the 'myblogs' can wait for some time but the time has perhaps now come for me to share the experiences that I have gained working in one of the best centres in the south and two other centres situated in the western part of the country.I really appreciate IRADIX by doing a real helping job to the radiologists in finding employment.I had myself found the job from IRADIX job column.I hope the members of IRADIX would try all the best to help IRADIX grow better and better so that it is able to help ourselves in a much better way..My regards to you Dr.Ajay |
